Internal Communications

Create compelling, fit-for-purpose, outcome-oriented content that informs, inspires, and drives action.

Align, Simplify, Unite

Build and deliver communication initiatives that align teams, simplify the complex, and educate and unite employees around your company’s mission, values, and goals.

Whether you're starting from scratch, need process improvement or staff augmentation for your current internal communications programs, or desire coaching for your comms team, I thrive on partnering with leaders to explore communication needs and propose solutions that will engage employees at all levels.

Identify Your Business Goals

Define SMART objectives and create a strategic communications plan that will drive results.

  • What outcome are you trying to achieve?
  • What action are you asking people to take?
  • Are you planning a process improvement or a new technology rollout?
  • Are you implementing a return to office, relocation, or hybrid work model?
  • Are new behaviors necessary for a safety, compliance, or DEI initiative?

Identify Your Audiences

Map your stakeholders and identify your audiences.

  • Who needs to hear your message, and who is best positioned to deliver it?
  • Who will be impacted by this change?
  • Who are your champions, your resistors, your leaders, your decision-makers?

Craft Your Messages

Tailor your message to a variety of audiences at multiple touchpoints.

  • What do your employees need to know, feel, and do?
  • How can you ensure your employees understand what you want or need from them?
  • How do you capture (and keep) people's attention?

Reach Your People

Design a tactical communications plan built around your messages, audiences, channels, and timeline.

  • What channels are available to you?
  • How can you meet your people where they are?
  • When do your people need to be informed and then take action?

Measure What Matters

You’ve identified your business goals and crafted and delivered your messages. But how will you know if you’re successful in helping your employees understand what they needed to know, feel, and do? Did people take the action you wanted, needed, or expected? Did behaviors change? It’s important to keep in mind that sometimes it may take months or even years to determine whether you were successful, especially with a large change like a company-wide reorganization or a large technology rollout.

I can help you identify your baseline measurements and the listening tools available to gather data as well as recommend additional touchpoints for gathering vital information.

A Leader in Internal Communications

Over the years I’ve shifted from tactical delivery into leadership roles focused on developing employee communications strategies and supporting a team of executive leaders – and yet I still get into the nitty gritty of writing, editing, and designing while playing that "leader coach" role.

I served on the board of IABC Houston from 2018-2021, organizing volunteers, creating professional development programming ranging from monthly luncheons to webinars, and helping members navigate the early days of the Covid-19 pandemic. In February 2020, the IABC Houston Chapter took home a record six Chapter Management Awards and was named the International Chapter of the Year and Medium Chapter of the Year.

I've also served as a judge for IABC's Bronze, Silver, and Gold Quill Awards and have won two Gold Quill Awards for Internal Communications work.
